Ambassador Chaminda Colonne emphasized the importance of exploring new avenues to,expand and diversify bilateral economic engagement, noting that despite over six decades of
diplomatic relations, the level of bilateral trade remains relatively low, 150 million US$ with
Brazil.
President Lante of Brazil – Asia Chamber of Commerce (CBA) elaborated on the CBA´s mandate, role in promoting trade and investment between Brazil and Asian countries. While
highly appreciating the initiatives and views presented by the Ambassador, President Lante conveyed his fullest commitment to consolidate his Chamber´s ties with Sri Lanka for mutual
benefit.
Both identified several potential areas for collaboration, including joint ventures and,partnerships in agriculture, information technology, machinery, logistics, and value-added
manufacturing.
The invitation extended by Ambassador Chaminda Colonne, to lead a Brazilian business
delegation for upcoming Sri Lanka Expo 2026 in June, was warmly accepted by the President
Lante of CBA.
Both also discussed ways to increase the visibility of Sri Lankan products in the Brazilian
market, including value-added exports such as Ceylon cinnamon, gems and jewellery, and
wellness-related products, as well as opportunities to promote tourism and people-to-people
exchanges as well as need to enhance sea route connectivity between Sri Lanka and Latin
America to facilitate smoother trade flows.
